Since 2014, Black and Gold has stood as a collective shield—bringing together a band of brothers who share an undeniable passion for music and connection. With every performance, they inspire friends, family, and loyal followers alike. Their infectious energy often turns into singing, dancing, and laughter, creating memories that linger long after the music stops.

This band boasts some of New Zealand's finest musical talent, with the added honor of welcoming powerhouse names like Francis Kora (KORA) and Ara Adams-Tamatea (L.A.B.) to their lineup. Their style spans from top Kiwi song icons to timeless classics and today’s Top 20 hits. Whether it’s Rock, Pop, Dance, Reggae, Dub, Funk, or countless classic bangers to wash it all down, Black and Gold keeps the good vibes flowing.

Their reputation for blending skill and charisma has earned them a well-deserved place on Aotearoa’s biggest stages, where they continue to captivate audiences with their unique musical charm.

Back for the 2025 A Taste of Matarangi festival—bigger, better, and bolder—the boys of Black and Gold bring their signature twist that ensures everyone is engaged, energized, and having an unforgettable time.

Grant Haua

Grant Haua is a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose passion for music ignited at the age of 13 when he first picked up the guitar. He released his debut solo album in 2010, showcasing his distinctive blend of soulful melodies and raw, heartfelt storytelling.
 
Grant's journey includes forming the band Swamp Thing, with which he wrote, toured, and performed for eight years, captivating audiences at festivals across New Zealand and Australia. Since 2018, he has returned to focusing on his solo career, embracing the deep grooves of soul and blues. Grant’s music has taken him far and wide, with tours across Europe and Australia and the release of four albums that highlight his expressive voice and masterful guitar work.

This dynamic duo from the Bay of Plenty brings unmatched energy and versatility to every performance. Covering an impressive range of genres—from country and rock to reggae and R&B—Sammie and Angelo know how to keep the crowd on their feet and wanting for more.

Hazy and the Jays band image

Hazy and the Jays

Coming together at the beginning of 2024, Hazy and the Jays is a Thames based four-piece rock band. Originally forming in high school with the intention to compete in the national Smokefree Rockquest competition, after they made their way to the Waikato regional finals the band made the decision to stick together. For that point onwards, Hazy and the Jays has played a number of shows such as the Paeroa Fireworks and Thames Foodbank Fundraiser.

They take inspiration from a wide array of artists with examples including Måneskin, Radiohead, Alice in Chains and Vulfpeck.

At this year’s festival, Hazy and the Jays will deliver a captivating mix of classic rock hits and their own original compositions.
